Brooklyn’s second annual The Great Big Bacon Picnic did not disappoint. Created by Great Big Food Events LLC and held at The Old Pfizer Factory in Williamsburg, the sequel outdid its predecessor. It was a glorious weekend long, all bacon everything affair showcasing the vast culinary possibilities of this heaven-sent food.
A weekend that noticeably illustrated that autumn has arrived, provided the ideal backdrop for Brooklyn’s second annual bacon festival. Upon entering the event, bacon enthusiasts and lovers were immediately greeted with bacon, of course. And, lots of it. However, this was not your run-of-the-mill, throw on the frying pan and eat bacon. This was gourmet, wonderfully and thoughtfully planned, all-you-can-eat bacon. ALL-YOU-CAN-EAT!
Not to be outdone by its last year’s extravagance, this years’ Great Big Bacon Picnic culinary experts showed up and showed off. Over 100 of the best New York City participants contributed, including, chefs, restaurants, food trucks, brewmasters, distillers, and mixologists. The bacon festival was also beneficial in learning some new local eats, treats, and drinks. Among which include: LamChops Traveling Kitchen, Ho’ Brah, Brooklyn Baked & Fried, Tellers, Ottomanelli Burgers Restaurant, The Brooklyn Tree, Barrow’s Intense Ginger Liqueur, New York Distilling Company, Bakon Vodka, amongst others.
The Great Big Bacon Picnic was a spectacular event from start to finish. Although it was difficult to choose, here are some highlights from this past weekend’s bacon festival:
- Bareburger’s Maple Sriracha, candied bacon slider with pickled red onion, Boston bib
- Ho’ Brah’s Chipotle Bacon Avocado Deviled Egg
- LamChops Traveling Kitchen’s The Graceland Banana Fosters
- Tellers Black Pepper Bacon
- the Brooklyn tree’s Apple Bacon Bread Pudding with whiskey creme Anglaise
- Infirmary’s Praline Smothered Beignets Kissed with Smoked Bacon and Candied Pecans

The Great Big Food Events, LLC created a stylish ambiance that paralleled the upscale
bacon-filled delicacies that were served. Reminiscent of a high-end beer garden, luxurious patio furniture seating sprinkled with numerous high top tables. Attendees could also enjoy a comfortable atmosphere that kept true to the festival’s nod to the picnic themed event. Picnic tables were provided along with picnic blankets sprawled out on turf made for a fun event. Throw in a little bit of corn hole, life-sized Jenga, and the entertaining and sultry sounds of Brooklyn’s own High & Mighty Brass Band, The Great Big Bacon Picnic is an event that is pretty tough to beat.
If the second annual Great Big Bacon Picnic is an indicator of future success, then this food festival will be a hot ticket for years to come!
